What to do when it stops
Written for the moment it actually matters: the truck is stopped, the clock is running, and you need to know what to do in the next five minutes. No filler.
- Broken down on the motorway: the first five minutes Position, visibility, then the phone. What to do in the first five minutes after a truck stops on a motorway, and in what order.
- Losing air pressure: stop while you still choose where A falling air system will set the spring brakes by itself, wherever the truck happens to be. How to find the leak, and what can and cannot be fixed at the roadside.
- Warning lights: which ones mean stop now Red means stop at the first safe place. But four warnings override the colour entirely, and knowing which they are is the difference between a repair and a recovery.
- AdBlue warning on the road: how long have you got? An AdBlue warning is a countdown, not a breakdown. What the stages mean, what you can fix at the roadside, and what needs a mechanic.
- Winter on the Alpine corridors: the three things cold breaks AdBlue freezes, water in the air system freezes, and a marginal battery stops starting. All three are predictable, cheap to prevent, and expensive at three in the morning on a pass.
